Parkside students get ready for a career in Cyber crime prevention!

On Thursday 21st June, Parkside hosted a regional competition and roadshow to grow awareness of Cyber Security and introduce the industry to our students whilst providing key information to better educate the students in the risks and the law within this sector.

West Yorkshire Police and some leading industry players introduced the workshop in the theatre and ran two exciting workshops. These included a computer misuse activity and a Cyber Security Challenge UK game. By participating students gained cyber security skills, enjoyed fun and interactive activities and began to develop a network of friends and contacts. Skills developed included creativity, curiosity, communication and problem solving. The students then had the opportunity to participate in a competition, The Matrix Challenge 2018.

The Matrix Challenge 2018 is an innovative cyber competition designed and delivered by West Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Cyber Crime Unit in partnership with Cyber Security Challenge UK and GrillaTech.  https://www.yhrocu.org.uk/news/matrix-challenge-2018-cyber-competition-for-young-people-launched/

The Cyber Security challenge proved to be a really productive morning for everyone involved. The students behaved in an impeccable manner and all got involved in the activities. Many have already entered the competition and we will eagerly await results to see if we are invited to the final on August 18th.
