On Monday 22nd, 9 students stayed after school to take part in the school heat of the Future Chef Competition.
The smells wafting down the corridor distracted the staff in school from their marking and lesson planning. Some incredibly complex and varied meals were produced. Gressingham duck served with flambéed passion fruit, crushed potatoes and green beans. Chinese five spice crusted steak with beetroot puree and leeks. Spicy salmon, served with noodles with tender stem broccoli. Mango glazed chicken with mustard and chive mash. Homemade Quiche Lorraine. Beef Chilli with rice and Mexican nachos. Gammon, egg and chips. Lemon salmon and homemade noodles. Baked tortilla, with homemade sausage and vegetables.
The judging was very difficult, some members of staff had to go back and try extra helpings several times before they could decide (Mr Miller especially!). The maturity, variety and complexity of the dishes produced were astounding.
After the judging, two winners were chosen to go through to the next round. Chloe Allatt and Jake Taglione. They will go to Leeds City College on Wednesday 7th December to cook in the local final. This time they will cook the same main course (Chloe’s steak and Jake’s duck) and create a dessert as well.
