Bullying

At Parkside, we work with you, your families and the community to provide you with a safe, secure and happy environment in which to learn. We expect high standards of behaviour and always encourage you to develop into responsible and valuable members of the community.

Bullying includes:

  • Deliberately hurtful behaviour
  • Repeated often over a period of time
  • Difficult for those being bullied to defend themselves against

It usually takes one of four forms:

  • Physical e.g. hitting, fighting, taking belongings
  • Verbal e.g. name-calling, insulting remarks – Any verbal bullying that is construed as racist, sexist, transphobic or homophobic will result in a significant sanction.
  • Indirect e.g. rumour-mongering, use of social media.
  • Online-bullying e.g. texting, use of social media, through gaming etc.

Who to contact:

We are a telling school and you must report concerns, even if you are not directly affected yourselves. You can talk to:

  • Your Coach
  • Your Head of Year or Student Support Leader
  • A member of the Safeguarding Team. Their office is located at the end of the ICT corridor.
  • Another Trusted Adult in the school

If you’re uncomfortable reporting bullying through talking to a Trusted Adult, you can email the Safeguarding Team: safeguarding@parksideschool.net.

We will deal with each case sensitively and discreetly. A member of the Safeguarding Team will speak to you and you can expect to be asked to write a statement about what you know to help us resolve the situation as quickly as possible, making sure that the relevant families are involved at all stages.
